In 2022, Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art (MIMOCA) launched a new public entry exhibition, “MIMOCA EYE,” inviting artists 35 years old and younger to submit works of contemporary art. The “1st MIMOCA EYE” received 294 entries in response, and 17 finalists have been selected in a strict judging process by the selection committee. The Museum is pleased to present the “1st MIMOCA EYE” exhibition featuring the finalists’ works. A grand-prize winner and second-prize winner will hereafter be chosen from the finalists’ works, with the grand-prize winner receiving prize money. As a supplementary prize, the grand-prize winner will also receive a solo exhibition at MIMOCA as well as backing for further advancement. Hereafter, the public entry exhibition will be held every three years.
“Art is an answer to the questions of that era, and artists have a responsibility to think about how to express their time. This is contemporary art. I would like this art museum to be a venue for artworks that emerge from the most important and most difficult undertaking—to orient oneself to the future and discover things not yet existing.” —Genichiro Inokuma
Guided by Genichiro Inokuma’s words, MIMOCA has high expectations that young artists who bear the future will pursue new expression while reflecting deeply on their time, and thereby give wings to their talent. We invite you to experience the fresh sensibilities of finalists’ works in the “1st MIMOCA EYE.”
